The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (the Regulations) were introduced to improve health and safety in the construction industry. They are particularly concerned with managing risk and effective planning, and apply to anyone involved in construction including clients, designers, contractors and workers. The Regulations revise and replace two previous sets of regulations - the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994 and the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996. The parallel legislation in Northern Ireland is the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007.

This factsheet explains what the Regulations cover, who they apply to and the obligations they impose on those involved in a construction project.
