Under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (CPRs) it is an offence for a UK trader to mislead, behave aggressively or otherwise act unfairly towards a consumer. This factsheet explains which commercial practices are deemed unfair under the CPRs and how the CPRs are enforced. It also provides sources of further information.
On 1st October 2014, the CPRs were amended to allow consumers to seek private redress if they are treated unfairly. These new powers of redress are explained in BIF 507, A Guide to the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Regulations 2014.
